explanation

[edit]

In November 2009 I decided I would have to try to leave a note on every flickr image I uploaded. While thanking the flickr uploader for using a free liscense was one reason, the main reason is that I found that after uploading thousands of images from flickr I couldn`t count on remembering when I had previously uploaded the image.

Somehow I missed leaving that note on this image, and I uploaded it a second time. I only realized this when I had made sure the recent image was in several focussed categories. Since I had already left the courtesy note on the flickr page, pointing to this image, and since it was better categorized, I put the {{Duplicate}} tag on the older image.

In general, all other issues being equal, I would argue for placing the {{Duplicate}} tag on the newer image. In this case the images weren`t equal, for the two issues I explained above. I also didn`t have to worry about hurting the feelings of one of the uploaders -- as I uploaded both images.
