Identification

[edit]

@Thiotrix: Hello. This is a fine and interesting photo of a cyphelloid fungus, but it does not show Lachnella villosa, but rather Lachnella alboviolascens. I think these are the only two species of Lachnella normally found in Europe. Photos of the two species can be compared in Mushroom Observer and "Fungi of Temperate Europe".[1] According to "Funga Nordica", L. villosa is shaped like a small cup (not an extensive disc), is all whitish (as opposed to having the interior "greyish with a bluish-violaceous tinge"), and has white hairs which are relatively long compared to the cup.[2] I think this is quite clear and so I intend to change the identification accordingly. Thank you for this identification. Category change is done and file will soon be renamed. --Thiotrix (talk) 10:12, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Great! One thing which intrigues me about this photo is that there seems to be a walnut in the background. Was that put there deliberately to give a scale? Strobilomyces (talk) 19:42, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
