Instructions for editing[edit]

In case anyone is not familiar with SVG, I'll lay out a few simple guidelines on how to edit the map. It's really easy and no special software is required. Just open the file with any text editor (Notepad, Wordpad, etc.), make and save your changes, then open with any internet browsing software such as Chrome or Firefox to view the result. To get to the main meat of the file (where the country color codes are specified), just scroll down a few page lengths and you will see a list of country abbreviations that correspond to each map color code. From there it is really pretty intuitive. Just follow the example of using a . in front of the country codes and a # in front of the state codes. Should the set of fill colors ever need to be changed, there are various websites that provide HTML color codes such as this one. That is pretty much all there is to it for making basic changes.--Jamesy0627144 (talk) 01:20, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Spain and the Netherlands[edit]

For anyone interested, there is a discussion at Wikipedia:Talk:Legality of cannabis over how to handle these two countries on the map.--Jamesy0627144 (talk) 07:19, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Edits completed but not showing up in the map?[edit]

Hey, I just edited the map to add the ACT as legal, and viewing the svg outside of the upload shows that the edit is there, but after uploading it it doesn't seem to have worked? What's up with that? Acolossus (talk) 15:56, 14 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

After yet another attempt with a different filename, the same result has happened. The file itself has been changed, but attempting to upload it to wikimedia doesn't do anything. Acolossus (talk) 16:05, 14 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Acolossus: It sometimes takes a minute or two to actually show up on the file page, if that's the problem. Is it OK now? The map looks fine to me!--TFerenczy (talk) 18:13, 14 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
ACT is unchanged, it should be blue, I've uploaded two maps that should be blue but they're not for some reason. Acolossus (talk) 18:56, 14 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It is blue on my device, try to force reloading of your browser without cache by pressing Ctrl+Shift+R (Firefox and Chrome) or Ctrl+F5 (Internet Explorer/Edge).--TFerenczy (talk) 19:10, 14 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Colors – from blue to green[edit]

I personally feel like it would be better to represent legality with a green color rather than blue. Is there consensus for a change like this? Thanks. 12u (talk) 17:52, 6 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The decision to use blue instead of green is likely to aid those who are red-green colourblind. DelUsion23 (talk) 18:58, 6 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I was not aware of this. If that's the case, it is better to keep the blue. 12u (talk) 20:21, 6 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

US states that have legalized cannabis[edit]

Shouldn't US states that have legalized cannabis be listed as "illegal but unenforced" because it is still illegal under a federal law that is not enforced in these states? 206.204.236.63 18:28, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
