Data source and map errors

[edit]

What is the data source? --Timeshifter (talk) 21:02, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm almost certain it's Credit Suisse GWDB due to the value of 444,999 for Iceland. See also Wikipedia TalkGeorge Makepeace (talk) 03:21, 10 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I copied your comment from the Wikipedia talk page for the map since uploaders and others usually only have the Commons talk page on their watchlists. The Wikipedia talk pages for images are not really meant to be used. It is an old problematic design flaw of the Mediawiki software when used on Wikipedia. Comment of George Makepeace:

The color on this map for French Guiana indicates a median wealth of 102,641 to 195,417 USD, but according to the Credit Suisse Global Wealth Databook (p22), French Guiana has a mean wealth of 48,051. If Guiana has a mean wealth of 48k, it's infeasible that it has a median wealth of over 102k: every other country's median wealth is significantly below its mean wealth. — George Makepeace (talk) 23:33, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

French Guiana number for mean wealth is on page 22 of the Global Wealth Databook. I did a search for "French Guiana" in the Databook, and did not find any number for median wealth.

French Guiana is part of France, but it is common on country lists on Wikipedia to use the local number for territories and subnational areas when they are available. We have a mean wealth number for French Guiana that is much lower than for France. So it would be misleading to use France's color for it. It should just be blank, and without color for now. --Timeshifter (talk) 12:33, 11 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
