Year of title is misleading for the following timeline of events:

  • SCarolina secede 60Dec
  • Kansas in Union as state after Bleeding Kansas: 61Jan29
  • Confederation of seven secede: 61Feb
  • Fort Sumter: 61Apr12 leads to Confederation be joint by four more states Tenn, Ark, NCarol & Virg (so 7+4=11)
  • Tennss controlled by Union: 62
  • West Virginia in Union: 63Jun20
  • Emancipation proclaimed in 10 states (11-Tennss): 63Jan1st
  • Nevada created from Utah Terr: 64Oct31

So Kansas and Tennessee can be OK for the sake of simplifying, but I guess Nevada wasn't even in mind in 1863. Besides, what happens to the Dakotas and Arizona-NewMexico border compared to file:US_Secession_map_1861.svg?

Can anyone explain? Sobreira (parlez) 22:32, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
