The “global city” (also called “world city”, “city-world”, “alpha city” or “center city”) is a concept of urban geography promoted by the geography department of Loughborough University. The term “global city” is attributed to the sociologist Saskia Sassen, author of the book published in 1991 “

The Global City

”.
