Deutsch: 05.03.2006 01796 Pirna: Blick von Nordwesten über die Elbe zur Altstadt von Pirna mit der Marienkirche (1501-1546) und dem Schloß Sonnenstein (GMP: 50.961643,13.945779). Die
ehemalige Festung Sonnenstein stammt im wesentlichen aus der 2. Hälfte des 16. Jahrhunderts mit Nutzung älterer Teile. Die 1269 erstmals erwähnte Burg gehörte anfangs den Markgrafen von Meißen, kam dann aber in böhmischen Besitz. 1404 gelangten "schlos und stat Pirn" an Markgraf Wilhelm I. von Meißen. Das Schloß wurde als Residenz der Kurfürsten und Herzöge von Sachsen und als Verwaltungssitz des Amtes Pirna genutzt. 1639 erheblich beschädigt. 1811-1939 Heil- und Pflegeanstalt für geistig Behinderte. Der viergeschossige Elbflügel, die ehemalige Hauptkaserne der Festung, wurde 1904 bis 1909 nach Plänen des Dresdner Architekturbüros Schilling & Gräbner umgebaut. 1940-1941 Euthanasie-Tötungsstätte der Nationalsozialisten. 1945-1949 Flüchtlingslager und Quarantänelager; Landratsamt Pirna und Polizeischule (bis 1954).
