Осколочно-фугасная авиационная бомба ФАБ-500 M62 предназначена для поражения военно-промышленных объектов, железнодорожных узлов, легкоуязвимой и легкобронированной техники, живой силы и военно-полевых сооружений. Применяется с высот 570 - 12000 м при скоростях 500 - 1180 км/ч.
