Object history | Dieses Wappen entspricht dem Siegel des Dorfgerichts von Imsweiler aus dem Jahr 1681, das heute im Historischen Museum der Pfalz in Speyer aufbewahrt wird. Der Ursprung dieses Wappens lässt sich nicht mehr nachvollziehen. Karl Heinz Debus hat in seinem „Großen Wappenbuch der Pfalz“ von 1988 (S. 88) die Vermutung ausgesprochen, dass das Andreaskreuz im Gerichtssiegel auf ein früheres Andreaspatrozinium der Pfarrkirche von Imsweiler hindeuten könnte. Dagegen spricht jedoch, dass in einer von Johann Goswin Widder 1788 im 4. Band seines „Versuchs einer vollständigen Geographisch-Historischen Beschreibung der Kurfürstlichen Pfalz am Rheine“ (S. 333) zitierten Urkunde aus dem Jahr 1481 die Pfarrkirche von Imsweiler als Marienkirche bezeichnet wird. Eine zuverlässige Erklärung für Ursprung und Bedeutung des Ortswappens von Imsweiler lässt sich daher heute leider nicht mehr geben. Es wurde durch König Ludwig II. von Bayern genehmigt. | ||||
