Object history
Deutsch: Dieser Abtsstab verweist einerseits auf den bislang berühmtesten Mann, der in Trittenheim geboren wurde, Johannes, der sich in humanistischer Art den latinisierten Ortsnamen zulegt: Trithemius (1462-1516). Er war lange Jahr  Abt von Sponheim, bis zu seinem Lebensende Abt in Würzburg. „Die Schriften desselben reichen hin, ihm unsterblichen Ruhm zu verschaffen“, schreibt de Lorenzi in seiner Geschichte sämtlicher Pfarreien der Diözese Trier (Bd. I, S. 604).

Der Abtsstab lässt sich aber auch als Hinweis auf die klösterlichen Grundherren Prüm und St. Matthias mit verstehen.

Das rote Balkenkreuz in Silber weist auf das Wappen des Kurfürstentums Erzstift Trier, das silberne „T“ ist der Anfangsbuchstabe des Ortsnamens; dieses findet sich auf einem Siegel, das umschrieben ist mit SIGILLUM COMMUNITATIS IN TRITTENHEIM 1586 (heute Landeshauptarchiv Koblenz).
