Summary
[edit]DescriptionEubelodon morrilli.jpg |
English: Eubelodon morrilli Barbour, 1914 - fossil perfect tusker elephant skeleton from the Miocene of Nebraska, USA. (public display, Nebraska State Museum of Natural History, Lincoln, Nebraska, USA)
From museum signage: Like giraffes, perfect tuskers could feed on treetops, beyond the reach of other animals. They stood taller than earlier elephants and probably had a long trunk. Notice the relatively short jaw. Short jaws allowed room for the evolution of a long trunk. This is the world's only mounted skeleton of a perfect tusker. Classification: Animalia, Chordata, Vertebrata, Mammalia, Proboscidea, Gomphotheriidae Locality: undisclosed site in Brown County, northern Nebraska, USA See info. at: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eubelodon |
