Un plan horizontal coupe la sphère selon un cercle et le cône selon un autre cercle. Les vues de face et de profil (en haut) permettent de déterminer les rayons de ces cercles. Les cercles sont ensuite reportés sur la vue de haut (en bas), et les intersections des cercles donnent l'abscisse et l'ordonnée des points. Les abscisses sont reportées directement sur la vue de face (en haut à gauche). Les ordonnées sont reportées sur la vue de profil (à droite), en utilisant une droite à 45 ° qui permet de transformer la direction haut-bas en gauche-droite.

The intersection of an horizontal plane with the sphere is a circle, and its intersection with the cone is also a circle. The front- and side-views (at the top) give the radius of the circles. The circles are then drawn on the top-view (bottom figure), and the intersections of the circles give the abscissa and the ordinate. The abscissas are placed on the front-view (top left figure). The ordinates are placed on the side-view (right figure), using a 45° line that transforms the up-down direction into a left-right direction.
