La paquet d'onde : un modèle du photon

On a une sinusoïde de longueur d'onde λ dont l'amplitude est modélée par une fonction, une "enveloppe". La majeure partie de l'énergie électromagnétique est donc concentrée dans une zone de largeur définie.

Ce modèle ne décrit pas de manière satisfaisante toutes les propriétés du photon, notamment en raison de l'étalement du paquet d'onde. Il faut faire intervenir la dualité onde-corpuscule.

The wave packet: a model for the photon

A sinus function with a wavelength λ is modulated by another function, an "envelope". The electromagnetic energy is concentrated in a zone with a finite width.

This model does not describe all the properties of a photon, especially due to the spreading of the wave packet. It is necesary to introduce the wave-particle duality.
