Description
{{Seeman was an artist of Dutch extraction born in London who worked for George II and Frederick, Prince of Wales, but whose output is represented in the Royal Collection by versions of just two images – official portraits of George II and Queen Caroline (OM 508 and 511, 405678 and 406182), probably created soon after their accession in c. 1730. This is one of a pair of versions of the royal portraits (OM 510 and 513, 406201 and 402756), which may originally have been full-length like the others or possibly smaller. They have certainly been cut down to head and shoulder format, with an oval frame clearly painted over the original drapery. The Queen appears dressed in state robes with pearls at the shoulder, a tress of hair hanging down onto her right shoulder.}}
