Ecuador[edit]

If you have a correction to this image, please discuss them here. The image is derived from the tz database, but quite possibly some of the details are wrong. Eubulides 00:07, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's hard to find out there, but Sixto Durán Ballén, Ecuador's president, installed DST in `92. It's not clear how long it lasted. "Se recordará el fracaso de la llamada “hora Sixto” implantada en 1992 para supuestamente ahorrar energía eléctrica" [1] "Remember the failure of the so-called 'Sixto time' implemented in 1992 to supposedly save electric energy" It certainly did not extend past the four years of his presidency. 216.101.146.221 22:45, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks, I've updated the image accordingly. I assume that the Galapagos Islands also observed daylight saving time in 1992? If not, please let us know. Eubulides 06:24, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Color scheme[edit]

The color scheme recently installed makes the map worse. The yellow is hard to see. And if we're going to color the southern hemisphere differently, surely that should apply to all 3 colors, not just 1 color? But really, there's very little justification for changing the color of the southern hemisphere. I suggest doing such a map in another file, not in this one, as this change is not likely to be needed or accepted by the dozens of Wikipedia articles that use this image. For now, I have reverted the change. Eubulides (talk) 04:19, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File name[edit]

I added the following file renaming request:

{{rename|DaylightSaving-World-Subdivisions (as of October 2009).png|subject to change, adding date of reference}}

The following comment was made on the file description page (moved here for discussion):

Please don't rename this file. It is regularly updated as new changes come in, and is not meant to be a snapshot as of October 2009. If there is a need for old snapshots, new files can be created for them. Eubulides (talk) 08:12, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
According to Commons:File naming, a date of reference should be added to the file name. Remember, this is not Wikipedia. People can only link or not link the file. If the file constantly changes, it can't be used in Wikinews and the like. As a solution, it is suggested to keep a redirect and update it each time a version for a new date of reference is available. -- User:Docu at 00:23, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • This is asking for more than can be reasonably expected from the file providers. Nobody is trying to come up with an image that is "valid as of 22 December 2009" or anything like it. People are just trying to update this image as new information comes in. The image is not necessarily valid for any date; sometimes the updates are applied in an order that is not consistent with the actual changes to the rules. And sometimes nobody really knows what the rules are until after the dates have passed. If we were really trying to come up with a different image for each set of rules, then whenever an old typo was discovered we'd have to update dozens of images; this simply isn't practical and won't get done.
  • For more on the practical chaos that underlies this file, please see en:Daylight saving time. If there is a need for old versions of the file, I suggest that they be linked to directly via the version number, e.g., like this; or if that's not possible for some reason, they can be created as needed from this file, with names like "File:DaylightSaving-World-Subdivisions!20091101074056.png" for that particular version number (which is not necessarily the rules that were actually in effect at 2009-11-01 at 07:40:56 UTC).

Anti-Alias[edit]

Don't use it. You may think it looks better, and I won't discuss about that, because it's just what some people like and some people dislike. But anti-alias increases the file size by 110,8%! (That's more than doubling it, if you are bad with numbers.) Therefore I reverted to a version before. --Saftorangen (talk) 12:51, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Russia[edit]

"Russia from tomorrow night will cancel winter time forever by decree of President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev".

Let it be "cancel winter time" (although there is no "winter time" but standart time + 1 hour = decree time). But what's the reason Russia is now painted orange? Russian Federation is not the state that "no longer uses" DST - quite the contrary: Russia, from yesterday, uses only DST and does it "forever". --Polar Man (talk) 16:31, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Strictly speaking it uses "double DST" — one hour from 1930 and one hour from 2011.
But speaking rationally, when DST becomes permanent it stops being DST. Hellerick (talk) 17:29, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but "DST becoming permanent" is not equal to cancellation. If it were "Countries that does not use DST shift" it would be ok. Now the legend misinforms. --Polar Man (talk) 18:18, 29 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

To do: Tocantins does not have DST anymore (since 2013), according to this official source and this article. Also the shape east of Mato Grosso seems to be incorrect. --Cubitus (talk) 08:18, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Puerto Rico[edit]

Does Puerto Rico really used the Daylight saving? When?!

Political Edit Warring[edit]

Someone keeps changing the map over some Chechen/Ingush border issue. No one should have to go over this map with a magnifying glass in order to find out if this user is not changing any other aspects of the map as well while they're doing this. This map is NOT meant to reflect any political POV - therefore BOTH DE FACTO AND DE JURE borders need to be shown, as they are an important guide as to which regions ACTUALLY apply DST and which don't, IRRESPECTIVE of which country's jurisdiction they fall under POLITICALLY. What the Russian constitution says is irrelevant to this map, which deals with TIME, NOT POLITICS! Please, someone tell this user to stop messing with the map because now i dont know how much i can trust this map and therefore i have to go to each separate country's page to find out whether it has DST or not! 195.24.44.116 09:28, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ukraine, again[edit]

Ukraine should be blue. They uses UTC+2 winter / UTC+3 summer. --WTM2 (talk) 21:34, 28 October 2012 (UTC) http://www.worldtimezone.com/dst_news/dst_news_ukraine05.html --WTM2 (talk) 21:38, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

South Sudan[edit]

If the Sudan formerly followed DST, then presumably their incorporated South Sudanese territory did as well, at that time.
Not now, but at that time. Varlaam (talk) 19:46, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, South Sudan should be orange. --Kronf (talk) 09:17, 21 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Falkland Islands[edit]

The Falklands are in step with belligerent Argentina, rather than the UK? Seriously?
Varlaam (talk) 19:54, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe surprising, but true: no DST there. Ydecreux (talk) 20:27, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Cabinda[edit]

This map does not include the exclave of Cabinda, although its colour would be unaffected if it were.
Varlaam (talk) 22:11, 21 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Provencal/State borders[edit]

Countries such as UK, Syria, Argentina, China etc. do not need internal borders for the sake of consistency. Lets stick to international borders only unless the country has different rules for different parts such as United States, Canada, Brazil warranting such a distinction. -- とある白い猫 ちぃ? 23:58, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

Crimea[edit]

Crimea is not recognized as a part of Russia. Why is it orange? --Skrift (talk) 18:20, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is not a political map, this is a map of observed daylight saving. Daylight saving time is not observed in Crimea currently, therefore, it is orange on this map. --Mormegil (talk) 07:46, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Redundant Subdivisions[edit]

Is it really necessary to include subdivisions on countries which do not observe DST on a national level such as China, Russia, the DRC and a few others. I suggest only including subdivisions on countries like the USA and Canada as they have different internal laws on DST. --Leftcry (talk) 21:18, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Chile[edit]

Chile abolished DST in 2015, so that country should be coloured with orange and not blue. Regards. --Sfs90 (talk) 04:21, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I agree (but I don't know how to update the map). Ydecreux (talk) 20:27, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Chile reintroduces DST[edit]

Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Chilean Navy. --Nortino33 (talk) 02:04, 28 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

== Creston, BC ==u

Creston in Southeastern British Columbia, Canada, does not observe DST. That should be included in a future vector graphics map - and, if it's not too small, also on the current format. 24.108.170.50 05:35, 11 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Antarctica[edit]

Why is Antarctica all colored orange? Is there any common official time in Antarctica? What could be the summer time in the Arctic Circle? Kurono (talk) 18:29, 2 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Turkey DST[edit]

http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkey-continues-with-daylight-saving-time-permanently-137461

self-reverted, this map refers to time changing twice a year, not permanent dst via time zone change
