Wrongly titled image?[edit]

I do not believe that this is Maria dei' Medici. It is Eleonora di Garcia di Toledo (known as "Leonora"), the wife of Don Pietro de' Medici, a son of Cosimo I de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany. Not to be confused with Eleonora di Toledo, Cosimo's wife.

I base my view firstly on the costume, which is mid-sixteenth century, and secondly on the fact that in Isabella de' Medici by Catherine Murphy (Faber & Faber, 2008, ISBN 9780571230303), this portrait is reproduced with the caption "Leonora di Toledo, Isabella's pretty cousin and partner-in-crime, wife to her brother Pietro". Agreed on dating the portrait, and the source of the currently-titled image is muddy. I would change the description (with a note "identification from..." and the book info). And ask an admin to retitle the file as well. Does your book date the painting?

I've now uploaded a new version under a correct image title: Image:Eleonora di Don Garzia di Toledo di Pietro de' Medici, by Alessandro Allori.jpg. I am trying to work out how to get the image title changed on this one, as I don't expect it can be deleted, despite now being the inferior scan.Qp10qp (talk) 19:11, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
