English: Mayerling is a hunting lodge in Lower Austria, where on 30 January 1889 Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria, only son of Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria and Empress Elisabeth of Austria and heir to the Austro-Hungarian crown, was found dead with his mistress Baroness Mary Vetsera, apparently as a result of suicide. After the death of crown prince Rudolf the Mayerling hunting lodge (the scene of the tragedy) has been demolished upon order of Emperor Franz Joseph. A memorial church was built on the same place, it can be visited today.
