  • Sorry but I find the current translation terrible, it literally means "Assign exclusive rights to users". How about "特殊な権限を持つ利用者をマークする" (Mark users with exclusive rights)? --Dragoniez (talk) 13:29, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Good point, @Dragoniez. I had another word initially in my mind, and got trapped by the term mark. BTW, are you pointing out at both the verb 付与する and the object 一般以上の権限?
付与する　or マークする:
Surely, as for purist shoes, 利用者をマークする is more direct to en, though, マークする does hold a bit negative suggestion to it in everyday ja: Put your eye on somebody with doubtful expectations or intentions: 犯人をマークする（尾行する）.
  • My guess is that mark fall into the same routine, in the sense you are on the drivers seat to get to adminship. My bad if it is in more passive sense, or you have never dreamt about being an admin, and out of blue, you are marked by Checkuser or somebody to the job.
    • FYI, at Wikipedias, AFAIK you nominate yourself, then voted, and finally put to seat;
一般以上の権限:
How about 一定の権限 deignated rights?
  • 特殊な means extraordinary/special: my understanding relies on jawp, where being an andmin is said to be nothing special/extraordinary for;

@Omotecho: I see. Concerning "付与する", it just reminds me of when sysops, crats, etc. GIVE rights to users, and this is probably what makes me feel that something is wrong with the current translation. About "マークする", it is indeed polysemous and can sound ambiguous as you say. Also, "特殊な権限" may not be a good translation either although I said it myself, because user rights are nothing "special". Maybe "特定の権限を持つ利用者のグループ情報を表示する" (Show groups for users with certain rights)? A bit long though. Off-topic but I'm currently localizing this gadget for jawp and we'll need an interface for it if it'll be adopted, so this is quite interesting. --Dragoniez (talk) 10:55, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, your definition reads very user friendly, accounting for newcomers or passers-by as well :). I wish we will have an input and find where will we apply that phrase we discuss actually.
  1. Say, indicating an individual with admin rights to certain group/person for asking for advise?
  2. or in a senario, where we need to draw line who does what ?

  • Finished gadgetizing the localized script on jawp, with the system message of "MarkAdmins: 管理者などのグループに属する利用者に印をつける" (MarkAdmins: Mark links for users in certain groups such as sysop). This was determined based on a discussion among native speakers of Japanese. Please replace the current translation with this one.
