@Checkingfax, -revi, Jdx: I have changed it again to "Register beforehand for building access" from the blunder "Please RSVP", as discussed last time around. Storkk (talk) 07:53, 8 June 2018 (UTC)
Hi, Storkk. Thank you for your concern. I really appreciate it. As a polite person, I do not see "Please respond if you please" (Please RSVP) to be either a blunder or grossly redundant. I am just an overly polite guy. "Please" and "respond if you please" are two separate thoughts. They are not redundant redundancy, IMHO. Your mileage may vary. Maybe "Kindly RSVP" would be less redundant to your perspective? Or simply, "RSVP"?
Lack of an RSVP is not a dealbreaker for getting into the building. RSVP is a courtesy only, and does help with other issues.
"Register beforehand for building access" seems dogmatic, inaccurate, incomplete, impolite, and wordy to me. Brevity is the soul of wit. This message is just to apprise you of my state of mind. No biggie. Again, thank you for your input and concern. (side pings to Jdx and -revi). Having fun! Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 10:04, 9 June 2018 (UTC) - edited - {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 10:07, 9 June 2018 (UTC) - edited - {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 10:09, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
@Checkingfax: I'm sorry you feel that way. At the time I initially changed the wording, the page stated pretty clearly "Make sure to RSVP here in order to get access into the building.", italics in original, which I assumed meant it was necessary to respond in order to get access into the building, hence my wording. I would not object to simply "RSVP", though I thought the version I went with was mildly better than either of those, because in general when you request an RSVP, you are requesting people who don't plan to attend to respond as well. I see "please RSVP" as a mild faux pas... slightly worse than "Please xyz, please" (or "PIN number" or "ATM machine", etc.), and more akin to something like saying you found a bon mot juste (unironically, anyway). Both "bon mot" and "mot juste" are fine in English, but mashing them together would be a bit of a blunder. In any case, sorry for making your message into something you perceived as dogmatic and impolite... seeing that these notices go out to quite a lot of people, I thought it would be good to discuss a perceived minor gaffe beforehand and potentially arrive at better wording. Unfortunately concerns were ignored, so given that there were no objections stated to my proposal, I went ahead and implemented it. Storkk (talk) 12:55, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
