Particle Bed Reactor is a solid core nuclear thermal rocket engine where fuel elements are spherical UO2 surrounded by several layers for fission fragments retention and chemical protection. Liquid hydrogen flows through these elements packed between cylindrical porous frits and exhausts at 3000 K with a specific impulse of 1000 s.
