Template documentation[ view · edit · history · purge ]
This documentation is transcluded from Template:As of/doc.

This template is used to mark potentially dated statements, and will add an article to the appropriate hidden sub-category of Category:Articles_containing_potentially_dated_statements. This allows editors to catalogue statements that may become dated over time. The date used for a given statement should be the current date (for currently valid statements) or the date on which the cited reference was produced (for example, when using census data). It should not be used for future dates (use Template:Update_after instead).

Usage

{{As of |1= |2= |3= }}

  • This template MUST NOT be used in infoboxes that emit a microformat, as its emitted date markup will conflict with that.
  • This template is not necessary within quotations, and use of the template in such cases should be avoided.

Template parameters

TemplateData

TemplateData is a way to store information about template parameters (the description of those and of the whole template) for both humans and machines. It is used by VisualEditor and possibly other tools like Upload Wizard.

Existing template documentation
At Wikimedia Commons, it is recommended to use {{TemplateBox}} with either ‎useTemplateData=1 or ‎useTemplateData=only on the ‎/doc subpage and transcluding it with {{Documentation}} into the template. ‎<nowiki>-tags can be wrapped around the arguments, if required, to avoid templates being expanded.

Newly created template documentation and imports
Another option, especially for imported templates, or for users with JSON experience, is placing raw ‎<templatedata>-tags into the Wikitext of the template, as described in various Wikipediae.
