The species is 90 cm (35 in) high and is easily recognizable by its distinctive bright blue feet. Although the blue-footed boobies are usually associated to the Galápagos Islands (where half of all breeding pairs nest), they can be found from the Gulf of California down along the western coasts of Central and South America down to Peru.
