Linked Files: Synchronize Some Data

[edit]

Some files on Commons have multiple versions. One example of a multiple version file is an image that exists in multiple formats, viz., tif and jpg. Here is a live instance of one image that exists as a tif and jpg:

These files have been sourced from the Library of Congress which itself provides three versions on it's webpages.

Item page

[edit]

The "item" page:

https://www.loc.gov/pictures/item/2013651445/

displays three tabs of information about this image and also a whole bunch of useful info about the image.

  • Title:
  • Creator(s):
  • Date Created/Published:
  • Medium:
  • Reproduction Number:
  • Rights Advisory:
  • Call Number:
  • Repository:
  • Notes:
  • Subjects:
  • Format:
  • Collections:
  • Bookmark This Record:

it also has a link to view the MARC record for the item. I'm nearly certain that if I knew more about MARC records I would recognize the full value of this page:

https://www.loc.gov/pictures/item/2013651445/marc/

Let's not forget the page also has two links to pages showing related items.

My Question

[edit]

Wouldn't it be nice (AND USEFUL) if we could somehow link the related pages and keep some data synchronized, say, for example, the CATEGORIES on both of these pages.

Alternative: Having a means to embed or otherwise display selected data from all of the files within each file and also synchronize selected data.

Humm....food for though.
