Kefale Alemu

Kefale Alemu was born In Ethiopia North Shoa Region in 1963. He completed his Secondary High School from Menelik II in Addis Ababa. In 1882 He was awarded a scholarship and travelled to the previous Soviet Union for higher education. He studied Agronomy in Tashkent the capital City of Uzbekistan and graduated with MSC degree in distinction. Kefale returned to Ethiopia in 1888 and worked with FRP (Farmers' Research Project) and carried out important research works with farmers on Enset, Cotton, Sweet potato and other major crops in the Southern part of Ethiopia. In a participatory research on farmers' fields he successfully identified a biological pest control method to protect crops from pests using a leguminous plant called Desmodium intortum. In 1998 he was once again awarded a Scholarship and travelled to East Anglia (UK) and further studied as a postgraduate student in the School of Environment and development and completed his second MSc Degree in Environment and Development successfully. Kefale currently lives in London. He has been working as a lecturer for the CNWL and coordinated the Ethiopian Health Support Association (EtHSA) from 2004 to 2009. At the moment Kefale is developing the iwooket Media and is one of the the Executive Committee members of the TWS (Third World Solidarity) in London.
