Gita Gautam ( born: Feb 25 1951) is a social worker and the founder/president of Helpless Children Welfare Mission, non-profit organizations in Itahari and Duhabi, which is the first orphanage in Nepal established in May 11 1981 . Her organization specially works parentless children. Her efforts have been recognized by national and international media since 1999 when she got no.1 women social worker award in 1993 from honourable prime minister Krishna Prasad Bhatarai. Gautam started her career at the early 20’s while she was working as indian government officer at india Nepal border.she visited Nepal to find orphanage and work as she was also raised in Orphanage In india but there were non. She then build a home for parentless children (frist private Orphanage) in Nepal with her own earnings in 1981. In 1987, after running for 6 years she officially registered her organization. Till Today, she has raised more than 300 childrens. And now she is looking after 48 parentless children’s. She has been called the "GuruAama" for her work.

Early Life and Career Ms Gita kumari Gautam dedicated her life for the cause of the women and children and has been working for the past 42 years through helpless children welfare mission, which is her own creation. She was born as a single child after 11 years on February 25 1951 in Nepal. Moved to India when she was just 3 months old, due to her father work as an indian navy officer, when she was just 3 years old she lost her father in an accident within not more than a year she lost her mother too in a robbery when returning back to Nepal. She later on sent to Gandhi vanita Ashram (Orphanage) after her parents died. She spent her childhood days there in ashram. When she was teenager she was selected to participate in a Indian cultural musical programme in Indonesia and at the time of returning she got a chance to visit Sri Lanka, at the time visiting Buddha temple her tag named as Gautam Nepali, due to gautam and nepali she was treated special. She was very pleased and proud that she was born in same country where Gautam Buddha was born. She developed a strong urge to do something by her own creation in Nepal. After returning to ashram she studied till grade 10 matric as she used to take good care of the children in her orphanage her superintendent had a doctor friend Dr. tina she took her in Bombay to work in ashwini hospital she also worked as a helper on operation theatre, later on when Dr tina was transferred she left her job too. As she always wanted to look after parentsless children, after that she worked as an Incharge of hardiyal anathlaya in katihar and also worked as an officer in India – Nepal border for the Indian government. At that time she rescued many Nepali women from trafficking, always want to work in an orphanage in Nepal, but there were no orphanage in Nepal at that time. She then in In May 11 1981, established home for parentless children in Nepal. Later on to provide more care she gave up the Indian government officer job. At first she has to face many difficulties she was raised in India also doesn’t have parents From that time her journey as a social worker begun till now she never looked back. first it was very struggling difficult to run a home for parents less children because she was very young and doesn’t have any relatives no one was willing to help but she got many marriage proposal as she made an urge to not get married when she herself living in orphanage she later choose to cut her long hair, to control sensory pleasure and emotions she only wear saffron or white robe and live brahmacharya life. it’s been more than 4 decades, she raised more than 360 among them more than 55 they were just aged 1 days to 1 month, 37 girl got happily married from her orphanage, till now she as a mother expanding multifold, creating opportunity for children’s life and provide good care, give good education, with a difference. She also serves the poor and needy women. It has become the hub of all her welfare activities for the upliftment of downtrodden children and women ensuring their development and security. Apart from lifting these children now there are now many social organizations which have been established by a woman and the women are running their organization in Nepal by following her footsteps. She also helped many outsider from orphanage to create access to education to the deserving children; were other activities in her exhaustive agenda. To help children she has written many songs, and performed in many programme even in india. As she was raised in India her love for India can be seen in her albums she always praised india and written song attributing India as she was raised there. She always have appreciated of both indian and nepali culture, country and the community she shows her love and respect by writing national songs. She has made great impact and made both India and Nepal proud. To provide good care, to give all the love children deserve, for selfless service she never got married. She gave her whole life for the sake of helpless children. Her selfless work cannot be explained by words. She was appreciated by many national and international organization, clubs, school, colleges and each and every social organization have appreciated her work in the form of certificates. She was also awarded by Nelson Mandela Human Eights Award 2023 on 26th November 2023 on International Convention on Human Rights 2023 in New Delhi, India Gita Kumari Gautam, an epitome of love, is a visionary, a close friend and a mother to all the children.

Donation and fundraising Recognizing her effort as the first of a kind in Nepal, many local neighbour families, organizations have pledged their help by providing local donations mutthidan (1 rupees per day ) as a Major donations,itahari sub metropolitan city provide Rs.15000 per month and from 2019 Koshi province provide (3 to 4 lakh) per year. The major source of income is still local donations (mutthidan), and some came to her organization to celeberate their birthdays, anniversary etc from individual.
