I read economics at university, with a minor in public policy and an unhealthy interest for classics with special interest for the late Roman republic. Professionally, I work in economic research with a focus on banking and the regulation thereof. Since when I was a bit younger, I was and have been uploading a few images here and there. Now that I am a bit older, I've also gotten a bit interested in making maps, largely of the ancient world.
For maps, I use the following:
- QGIS (to create shape files)
- GeoPandas (to plot shape files to SVG)
- Consortium of Ancient World Mapper map tiles
- InkScape (for adjusting labels etc)
Some of my code and shape files are public and located on Github.
Feel free to leave a message on my talk page.
Maps, language and shapes
[edit]I'm a native speaker of English, with some knowledge of Latin and French. When it comes to maps of the ancient world that I don't intend to be translated, I try to put them in Latin, which remains the auxiliary language for classical studies. I'm not at all an expert on Latin composition though – reading and writing are different skills – and appreciate corrections.
As to the shapes on various maps that I make, I make no guarantees that they are consistent between maps. I value sourcing integrity more than intermap consistency.
