About me
I began working for the Wikimedia Foundation as a technical writer in October 2021. Before that, I was a technical writer and ontologist at Google, and I also worked in the social services field of information and referral. I have a Masters in Library & Information Science (MLIS), focused on classification systems and controlled vocabularies. I love metadata standards! My Bachelor's degree is in Arts & Ideas in the Humanities, focusing on ancient Greek pottery, studio art, and French.
My participation in the Movement as a volunteer happens under my personal account: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Triciaburmeister.
My work
I'm part of the small but mighty Technical Documentation team at WMF. As a technical writer, I like learning about complex technical topics so I can make it easier for others to learn about them too. Thanks to my background in library science, I'm especially interested in information architecture, content metadata, and how to best understand and support the varied ways in which humans conceptualize, find, and use information. I care about driving documentation work with data, and doing continuous UX research to inform and evolve how I work. If you're interested in contributing to Wikimedia's technical ecosystems, or you want to talk about information architecture, ontologies, technical writing, etc. don't hesitate to contact me!
