Disruptive edit warring

[edit]

You made bold edits to change the structure of how Sydney metro files are categorised on Commons, but they were reverted for many reasons. The edits failed to recognise the commonly agreed organisation structure around railway stations in Australia, i.e. {{Rsc-syd}}, they failed to recognised Sydney Metro Northwest, City & Southwest, and West as railway lines, and the Metro North West Line a service, failed to recognise stations such as Epping and Chatswood are one station, not two, and in addition to all these contribute to an incredibly confusing organisation structure in which category pages for particular things are being used for something completely different. For example, "Sydney Metro Northwest"; instead of being about the physical railway line, you've turned into a "Construction of Sydney Metro Northwest" analogue instead. You made some drastic and incredibly confusing changes without a single comment or note of explanation on any of your edit summaries or any talk page. You need to explain your reasoning and gain a consensus to change the structure used on so many categories for Australian railway stations outside of the Sydney Metro network. You made bold edits, but they were reverted. Instead of discussing after they were initially reverted however, you started an edit war, and if you continue edit warring, I will have to request an admin to block this IP. Please start a discussion at Category talk:Sydney Metro if you feel so badly about changing the structure. I'll be sure to ping as many relevant people to the discussion as I can, if you do. – PhilipTerryGraham (talk) 03:58, 15 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@202.159.132.27: In about an hour I will start to restore the categories to their status quo. Please do not make any more changes to these categories from the status quo without discussing first. Disregard for the status quo and continuing edit warring will have you referred to an administrator, as previously noted. – PhilipTerryGraham (talk) 04:21, 15 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@PhilipTerryGraham: The standard on Commons for rapid transit stations is NOT to use "railway station" in the category name. This is Australia's first metro line, so the "commonly agreed organisation structure around railway stations in Australia" doesn't apply - and if it were to apply to these stations it would go against the "commonly agreed organisation structure" around metro stations on the entirety of Commons! Looking at the history, you were the one that started changing "metro station‎" to "railway station" (at pages you have now had deleted). Could you provide a link to the discussion you had before doing this?

Where is the evidence that "Sydney Metro Northwest" etc are the names of physical railway lines? The Sydney Metro Northwest project included the conversion of the ECRL, yet you have continued to use the ECRL name for the Epping to Chatswood section, confusingly implying that section of the physical railway line simultaneously has two different names and failing to acknowledge the ECRL infrastructure is no longer part of the main line state & national network. Suggesting Sydney Metro City & Southwest is the name of a physical line makes little sense given it is an extension of an existing line and includes the conversion of part of the Bankstown line. Under your confusing naming criteria, the Bankstown line will be both two thirds metro and one third conventional main line once the C&SW project opens - absurd!

Separating railway and metro stations has been done elsewhere: eg. Partick subway station & Partick railway station.

As for your threats, I'd recommend caution before throwing the boomerang.

@202.159.132.27: Please understand that Sydney is not Glasgow, and thus how the railways are operated will be significantly different. In addition, "x railway station, Sydney" predates the "x metro station" naming scheme for Australian railway stations by literally years, [1][2] so it is the status quo in this case, and your claim that I personally changed it to that from "x metro station" is false. You asked for sources, so I compiled a list of sources at Category talk:Sydney Metro, which outlines all the facts that relate to your changes. – PhilipTerryGraham (talk) 07:35, 15 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@202.159.132.27: I've proposed a compromise between us over the names of the railway lines at Category talk:Sydney Metro Northwest. Feel free to share your thoughts on the proposal! – PhilipTerryGraham (talk) 16:01, 15 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
