Is the map a stand alone publication?
Is it a part of a book/atlas, map set?
If so more info about the publication and which part of this set is the current image?

Questions

[edit]

Should sections be separated

[edit]

Open question: Should there be proper section headings? These make it easier to separate the information but are not standard in similar templates. /André Costa (WMSE) (talk) 13:00, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

And if proper headings are used: Should the final two fields (permission, other_versions) have a heading?

Labels in bibliographic section

[edit]

Suggestions for suitable labels are welcome. The current Series title (series title) and Map sheet (set entry/page number/grid square) are non-ideal labels for wanting to describe that the map is part of a larger set/book with a specific number/reference. This is further complicated by a map possibly being a page in an otherwise non-cartographic book. Suggested values:

  • Part of:
  • Sheet reference:

Related to this is whether series should is a suitable parameter name for the "part of" field. /André Costa (WMSE) (talk) 17:22, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Map center/point

Four corners/Quadrilateral

[edit]

The example below relies on knowing the latitude and longitude of all four corners of the map. Corners have to be in the counter-clockwise order starting with lower left corner, so they are in lower left, lower right, upper right and upper left corner order. Thus allowing you a more complex Quadrilateral.

Comment on "projection"

[edit]

Hi. I have noticed that in the example given above the "projection" field is free text. I wonder if the different cartographic projections should be normalized and coded for use in this template, so that the information can be automatically retrieved later for e.g. warping old maps on new ones. Just a thought. --Hispalois (talk) 01:42, 20 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Hispalois: }. Sorry for not answering earlier. The given projection is put through {{I18n/map projection}} (similar to the old map template) which to a certain extent would limit the allowed input. One simple add-on solution would be to have that template return "Projection X is an unrecognised projection. Please use one documented at {{I18n/map projection}} or suggest that a new one be added.". ({{I18n/map projection}} would of course also have to be documented). /André Costa (WMSE) (talk) 13:38, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
