This file may be deleted.
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Tuanfeng Zhen Piaozheng.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

POTY barnstar.svg

You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2017 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in R2.

Dear Geographyinitiative,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2017 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the twelfth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2017) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top 2 from each sub-category.

In the final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2017.

Round 2 will end on 22 July 2018, 23:59 UTC.

Thanks,

Re: 东 as zh-tw[edit]

Hi! I happened to see your message at User talk:Chongkian. It seems that he has trouble distinguishing the difference between "Simplified Chinese" and "Traditional Chinese". There was a discussion about this(see: [2]) at his talk page last year. I'm afraid he may have made the same mistake again.--Kai3952 (talk) 21:38, 7 September 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for upload the maps from Army Map Service about Yunnan. In order to show in Wikipedia, I crop File:Txu-oclc-10552568-ng47-14.jpg into an accurate map about Mangshi.

-- Momocalbee (talk) 20:18, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

File:Gorno badakhshan map.png[edit]

If I understand correctly, you suggest that map of Gorno Badakhshan should be updated in relation to changed border between Tajikistan and China? Well, I see your point, but perhaps current map could be kept as it is (as an historical map), while another new map with changed border could be made and uploaded into Wikimedia Commons (but under different file name). Unfortunately, I am currently very busy with some things, so perhaps you can ask someone else to make new map? PANONIAN (talk)

File:Old Town 舊城區, CeLe 策勒, XinJiang 新疆, China 中國 19605097148 a9e344a702 k.jpg[edit]

Hi, I noticed you removed the {{Flickrreview}} template from File:Old Town 舊城區, CeLe 策勒, XinJiang 新疆, China 中國 19605097148 a9e344a702 k.jpg. Since this isn’t your own work and it was published outside of Commons, you’ll need to either contact OTRS with the email exchange verifying the CC license or ask Mr. Wong to change the license to one that allows commercial use.

It’s not relevant how you got the image - what matters is that it’s on Flickr with a different, Commons-incompatible license. Hope that makes sense, please let me know if you have questions. Ytoyoda (talk) 01:38, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

Please follow the steps described at COM:OTRS. Ytoyoda (talk) 06:30, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
@Ytoyoda: The page cited is an impossibly complex labyrinth of information. I asked for help understanding what the next step was about a week ago, but have gotten no response. Hence I conclude that the process for uploading an image in this manner does not actually exist in practice (on my level of user- at a higher level of user, it probably does exist to some limited degree) and I do not plan to mount any further defense of the use of the image, meaning that it should be deleted. Geographyinitiative (talk) 06:41, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
For you, the relevant section is Commons:OTRS#If you are NOT the copyright holder — forward your email exchange to the OTRS email address and add {{subst:OP}} to the image. Though the easiest thing would be to ask the copyright holder to change the license on Flickr - that should take less than 5 minutes. Ytoyoda (talk) 07:00, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
I am afraid that I will involve myself in a hopeless situation and I would rather just forget it for now and move on. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 07:04, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

Please don't overwrite files where this is controversial[edit]

I already mentioned this on File talk:China Xinjiang location map.svg, but maybe you didn't see it. You have repeatedly overwritten File:China Xinjiang location map.svg with a different version, even though other users have reverted your changes. This is contrary to Commons policy, which says that files should only be overwritten for minor, uncontroversial changes. Your changes are not uncontroversial, so I have reverted them again. If you want to use your map on a Wikipedia page, upload it under a different name and then update pages to refer to the new map as necessary. --bjh21 (talk) 22:34, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

About the Kinmen Map[edit]

Sorry for the late response. I discovered that a quite detailed Kinmen Map with little islands/ reef is available here: (File:Kinmen.svg).

However, I still made my own version based on the tourist map/ official map provided by the Kinmen Government Website because I did not discover the aforementioned file when I was drawing the map. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) The SVG above is even providing more reef than my version, maybe using the above file is OK. (haha) -- Nv7801 (talk) 10:48, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

@Nv7801: Thanks for your reply and work. I still have one minor criticism of Kinmen.svg map which I have noted on that page. Thanks for looking into this. Geographyinitiative (talk) 11:28, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

@Geographyinitiative: : I have added the Dongding Island on that map. --Nv7801 (talk) 12:22, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

@Nv7801: Amazing work! I love it! However, I believe Dongding is considered as part of Jinhu (green), not Lieyu (red). I would change it myself, but I can't edit .svg images at this time. Again, thanks for this great addition! Geographyinitiative (talk) 20:15, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

@Geographyinitiative: : I have corrected the file right now. I think the island belongs to Jincheng but not Jinhu? Seem Zh Wiki and here indicate that the island is managed by Jincheng. -- Nv7801 (talk) 20:33, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

@Nv7801: Thanks again for your work. I was beginning to think no one cared but me. The page for Jincheng you cited says 東碇 備註 註銷 (2017). The page Jinhu page from the same website says 東碇 備註 調整 (2018). I interpret this to mean that the island used to be part of Jincheng and latet became part of Jinhu. Geographyinitiative (talk) 20:44, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
@Geographyinitiative: Oh, many careless mistakes have made hah.Need to double-check more. It should be all right now. (XD) -- Nv7801 (talk) 20:50, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
@Nv7801: Hello! Sorry to bother you again, but I have one stylistic request I would like you to consider. In the Kinmen.svg map, 金門 is written below the word Kinmen. I think it should be centered below the words Kinmen (Quemoy). Quemoy is an ancient pronuncation that is no longer in use in the local language- Kim-mui. In modern Min Nan, the island is called Kim-mng. But the point is that “Quemoy” is a sound derived from the characters 金門, and if you center those characters below the words 'Kinmen (Quemoy)', I think it makea thia fact more clear. If you don't have the time oe disagree, forget it. I would do it myself, but I can't edit svg images. Geographyinitiative (talk) 04:04, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
@Geographyinitiative: It's OK right now! -- Nv7801 (talk) 05:10, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
