Deleted logo from Wikimedia[edit]

Hi, You recently mentioned that an image that I uploaded (a logo of a charity organization) was deleted from Wikimedia. From the links You kindly provided I managed to come to an understanding that users can only upload logos that they have (i) created themselves, or (ii) have permission to upload from the creator. I am in contact with the organization and they did state that I am allowed to use the logo on the article. How would I go about proving this and uploading the logo? Thanks in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ElvaOlle (talk • contribs) 11:06, 23 February 2018 (UTC)

@ElvaOlle: The copyright holder should send a written permission to COM:OTRS, the file will be restored then. --Steinsplitter (talk) 13:19, 24 February 2018 (UTC)

Image deleted[edit]

Hi, you ask to delete one of my picture and i want to know why this not conform with the rules of wikimedia? The picture is a logo with a fox, it's been created by me and a friend and we want to use it for a wikipedia article. Thanks --BlackRabbit85 (talk) 12:00, 11 February 2018 (UTC)Rabbit

It appeared to be an official logo of 'something' and not something you had created yourself. Please email COM:OTRS with a statement that it is your work and ask for it to be undeleted. --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 17:32, 11 February 2018 (UTC)

Deletion of Firefox in Ligurian language[edit]

Hi Josve05a, probably you could not read what was written in Ligurian/Genoese when Firefox in Zeneize was inserted. The author of Firefox in zeneize is a friend of mine, Mr. Alessio Gastaldi, and user on Wikipedia Ligure with username Gastaz . He has finished his ambitious project last year after updating his official version of Firefox in Ligurian/Genoese language on the website: http://firefoxzeneize.altervista.org/ He was duly authorized to start this project a couple of years ago and anyone can download his version from the web anytime. He changed the Firefox logo by adding the symbol of Genoa (the lighthouse), so the fox is holding a small copy of the "lanterna" (lighthouse) on its paw. As he had no time to work on Wikipedia lately, I asked him for permission (and wrote it) to publish his logo and link, and that is what I did. Kindly restore the Firefox page on our Wiki as it was before. All the best, Luenséin (talk) 08:51, 12 February 2018 (UTC)

Only the copyright holder can license a work under a free license. Please have the person(s) who owns the copyright for the derivative logo email us such permission to COM:OTRS per COM:EVIDENCE. --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 16:58, 13 February 2018 (UTC)

report to the Board of Trustees[edit]

Hi Josve05a, I assume you are ignoring my request to rollback/annul the deletion you made (see above correspondence titled: Deletion of Firefox in Ligurian language ). Here is the email address of the person who holds the copyright of Firefox in zenéize (Ligurian language) and related logo (which is DIFFERENT from the usual Firefox logo): alessio.gastaldi@libero.it (user name on Wikipedia Ligure: Gastaz . Feel free to ask him about the copyright issue. Should you keep ignoring my kind request to rollback/annul the deletion you made, I WILL FILE A REPORT TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES . Best regards, Luenséin (talk) 11:22, 13 February 2018 (UTC)

@Luenséin: You can talk to the WMF board of trustees at m:Talk:Wikimedia_Foundation_Board_of_Trustees or see m:Wikimedia_Foundation_Board_of_Trustees#Contacting_the_Board. They are very unlikely to intervene in the details of individual files hosted on Wikimedia Commons.
If you want the file undeleted, you can ask and put your evidence at COM:UNDEL. There is no need to be dependant on Josve05a.
Keep in mind that the project relies on free volunteer time and interest of volunteers. Annoyed messages in upper-case is not a good way to get results.
Thanks -- (talk) 11:31, 13 February 2018 (UTC)

Images of Michael Feldkamp - Enrico Carlini[edit]

Mr. Michael Feldkamp is a historian with the German Bundestag. Like many people, he is not a computer native and asks friends like me to draw his pages and add pictures. Mr. Enrico Carlini is a writer and translator in Liguria, Italy. He, too, relies on friends as he is not a computer native. My role is a highly social one in helping these people and I am very proud to serve the civil society. Your actions are causing distress and loss of precious time and are of no use to civil society. I will report your actions to a higher authority. Luenséin (talk) 11:24, 14 February 2018 (UTC)

I’m just following official policies and guidelines about Commons:Permission, Commons:EVIDENCE and Commons:Deletion policy. We require evidence of permission to license a file under a free license. Per policy we can’t just accept your word, see Commons:Grandfathered old files for which files we would accept it. --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 11:46, 14 February 2018 (UTC)

Quick Question request[edit]

hi, I came by to ask how to say "Village in china" and "town in china" in Swedish. (Its for wikidata). Thanks. Artix Kreiger (talk) 17:58, 17 February 2018 (UTC)

@Artix Kreiger: One way is to say "by i Kina" and "stad i Kina". Another way is saying "kinesisk by" and "kinesisk stad", but I would go with the former version". --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 10:44, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
Thank you so much. Artix Kreiger (talk) 21:27, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

[edit]

I don't get it. I need to prove that I have rights to use BirdLife's logo next to article on BirdLife? What would be considered as reasonable proof of usage rights for this purpose? Logo was download from official BirdLife's repository and it is official version of logo.

Debeljko (talk) 16:43, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

@Debeljko: To keep an image on Wikimedia Commons (this site) it needs to be freely licensed; either on the website or by email from the copyright owner. To only keep an image on a English Wikipedia article fair use may be applicable, but only on en.wikipedia.org, not here on Wikimedia Commons. Please see COM:Fair use vs en:WP:Fair use. --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 16:46, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

Deleted content[edit]

I thinks you should warned me before deleting what I did for days. Before I upload these logos I asssured the license. There is a thousand of logos in the category of anime and manga with the same license and these file were already approved.--Manami (talk) 21:47, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

@Manami: Please don't re-upload deleted files. Take it to COM:UNDEL or send evidence of free license to COM:OTRS to have the files undeleted. They were deleted since they are above the threshold of originality to be able to claim to be PD-textlogos/simple/ineligible, and since we are missing evidence of a free license. See the message on your talk page, and the policy links in it. --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 22:04, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
The logo is taken from here which the license is CC-BY-SA, acceptable for the upload. --Manami (talk) 22:16, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
Theres two issues with that source. First, all Wikia-sites claims that text is CC-BY-SA and that media pages are individually licensed (or not) on individual files description pages. That page has no license. But none of that matters, since it is not an official sources nd the uploader to that page (most likely) do not own the logo. It is a user-uploaded files to a wiki, not an official source - making it Commons:License laundering (if they were to claim a license there; which they do not). --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 22:22, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
So, what's the difference between my file uploaded and this, this or this??? --Manami (talk) 23:33, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
COM:TOO is the difference. --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 23:43, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
So, you say that file I would upload can be taken from the official site [1]??? Because this file is taken in the same way and the source of this doesn't lead anywhere. --Manami (talk) 00:09, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
I suppose this is a yes (?) --Manami (talk) 01:23, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
No. Those files are ok since they aren't creative enough to warrant copyright, while your uploaded logos had icons and drawings on them making them above COM:TOO and thereby copyrightable. If the official source however sys "this file is public domain" or "this file is licensed under cc-by-sa", then it would ok, after a Commons:License review. --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 11:13, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
Be objective. What is the difference between a symbol of spiral and a symbol of heart on background? The "ball" on this isn't "a icon and drawing"??? And you can't accept this, which is simple as those. On side-note, the logos I would uploaded aren't the official one, because the officials are write in japanese [2]. --Manami (talk) 13:21, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
Feel free to take it to COM:UNDEL. I've said what I've got to say, and I've pointed to the policies which explains the difference in creativity and our policy about licensing. --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 13:46, 19 February 2018 (UTC)

Galleas Girona[edit]

The owner of the copyright is probably National Museums of Northern Ireland if rights were transferred when this organisation was created. Best to delete it - the legal position will be vague and possibly contested Many thanks for pointing out the position before they did. All the best Notafly (talk) 19:59, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

CMPC logo deleted - 12Feb18[edit]

Hi, You requested an image that I uploaded (Cmpc club logo.png) to be deleted from Wikimedia. The Club logo image is a very low-resolution file for sole use on one article, for which the file depicts the sole, present logo of the article's subject. The purpose of use is to serve as the primary means of visual identification at the top of the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Maitlandpistolclub (talk • contribs) 12:45, 24 February 2018 (UTC)

COM:Fair use is not allowed on Wikimedia Commons. Please upload the file locally on e.g. English Wikipedia instead. --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 13:13, 24 February 2018 (UTC)
