Kodungallur (Malayalam: കൊടുങ്ങല്ലൂർ, anglicised Cranganore) is a municipal town in the Thrissur District of Kerala state in India. It was known in ancient times as Mahodayapuram, Shinkli, Muchiri (anglicised Muziris) and Muyirikkodu. Muziris was a world famous and prosperous seaport at the mouth of the Periyar. The city was also the capital of Kulasekhara dynasty (Second Cheras), who ruled Kerala and some parts of Tamil Nadu from 800-1102 AD. Kodungallur is also the entry point to the Greater Cochin from the North Western parts of Kerala.
