I would not merge these categories as the Captain of Köpenick is a quite popular figure in Germany (especially in Berlin) which is only based on Wilhelm Voigt. The picture which is left shows that even today often people dress up like the Captain of Köpenick who are (of course) not Wilhelm Voigt. There are also many things in Berlin named after the Captain of Köpenick (restaurants etc.). --Indeedous (talk) 00:52, 8 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose Indeedous is correct. The categories shouldn't be merged. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 05:37, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No, Indeedous is wrong. The people dressing up all impersonate Wihelm Voigt. On the other hand, there's nothing notable about the life and work of Wilhelm Voigt that is not referring to the Captain of Köpenick story. The two categories _could_ have a slightly different approach, but look what they are: a mess of both angles about Voigt, with no clear definition, and where really all files should be categorized as both. --WolfD59 (talk) 09:26, 13 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
