By country?[edit]

Some of these categories has subcategories "St. X churches by country", but many churches are placed directly in "St. X churches". How should it be? Should churches be further sorted into subcategories by country, or should they be put directly in the saint categories? "Category:Churches by patron saint" is a different way to sort and find churches than "Category:Churches by coutry", so I think it is not very useful to divide this category by country. But I also realise that there are many churches. So some "St X churches" categories can become very large when more churches are sorted. /90.229.135.159 23:29, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I deeply resent the idea of creating such categories, for logical reasons, but also for the sake of serendipity: the fun with the categorization "by patron saint" is to find as many churches as possible, and in areas of the world where you wouldn't have thought to search in the first place. --AndreasPraefcke (talk) 18:57, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I also think that is part of the fun with these categories, so I prefer to not sort by country. But now I think most categories are by country. /Ö 11:56, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For saints with only a few churches it gets more complicated to actually find the content deep down in almost empty subcategories if they are sorted by country. For example to find the (currently only) Saint Burkard church on Commons you have look through four categories Category:Burkard churches -> Category:Burkard churches by country -> Category:Burkard churches in Germany -> Category:St. Burkard Würzburg, when two could have been enough.
For saints with more churches "by country" categories may be a little more useful. But I think the "Saint X by country" is an unnecessary middle level, since it will usually be the only subcategory of "Saint X churches". Putting "Saint X in country Y" categories directly as subcategories of "Saint X churches" works just as well. /Ö 18:06, 8 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Saints X and Y churches[edit]

Should these be categorised only in a "category:Saints X and Y churches" or both in "cat:Saint X churches" and in "cat:Saint Y churches". /Ö 11:56, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As Jesus Christ is no "saint", Christ churches are sorted by "!"[edit]

So the same logic should apply to Holy Trinity churches as well? Can't see the difference. S a g a C i t y (talk) 19:44, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds reasonable. Maybe it can apply to Holy Cross churches and a few others too. /Ö 19:56, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
