Safiullah Safi, commanding general of the Parwan and Pol-e-Charki military police brigade, describes the responsibilities his men have at the Detention Facility in Parwan to Gen. David H. Petraeus, commander of NATO and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan. Petraeus toured the 10-month-old facility Sept. 27, along with Afghan National Army Maj. Gen. Marjan Shuja, Afghan deputy commander of Combined Joint Task Force 435 (left). More than 100 ANA soldiers work alongside some 1,200 U.S. service members at the facility, which was designed to provide safe, humane and effective management of detainees, along with group activities, educational and vocational training, and medical and dental services.
