Deutsch: Die Figur des Schmiedes wurde ursprünglich von Karl Gundelach. geschaffen. Die Figur trug die Züge von einem der beiden Stifter des Brunnens, Oscar Winter, anfangs mit dem für die damalige aussagekräftigen Bart. Nachdem im Zweiten Weltkrieg die Figur - wie auch zahlreiche andere - zum Einschmelzen für die Kriegsproduktion abgeliefert werden mußte, schuf der Bildhauer Friedrich Adolf Sötebier diese jüngere Figur ohne Bart nach einem Modell aus dem Besitz der Tochter von Karl Gundelach. Der Merkurstab, den der Schmied in der Hand hält, steht für den Handel: Die Firma "Oscar Winter, Eisenwarengroßhandlung hatte um 1900 mehrere Verkaufsstandorte in Hannover, darunter eines am Standort des heutigen Historischen Museums. |
