English: Army Sgt. Oscar Vazquez, a cavalry scout with the 1st Squadron, 40th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, looks over a valley during a combat patrol in May of 2012 near Combat Outpost Wilderness in the Paktya province, Afghanistan. Vasquez, who was originally born in Mexico, graduated high school in Phoenix, earned a bachelor’s degree at Arizona State University, joined the Army and is now a U.S. citizen.
