Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikimedia Commons. Thank you for your contributions.

Currently, you are editing without a username. You can continue to do so, as you are not required to log in to Commons to read and edit articles; however, logging in will result in a username being shown instead of your IP address (yours is 218.254.96.29). Logging in does not require any personal details, and there are many other benefits for logging in.

When you edit pages:

  • Please respect others' copyrights; do not copy and paste the contents from webpages directly.
  • If you are testing, please use the Sandbox to do so.
  • Do not add unreasonable contents into any galleries, such as copyrighted text, advertisement messages, and text that is not related to an article's subject. Adding such content or editing articles maliciously is considered vandalism.

Also feel free to ask a question on my Talk page. I will answer your questions as far as I can! Thank you again for contributing to the Commons.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 00:18, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is important to keep a cool head, especially when responding to comments against you or your edits. Personal attacks and disruptive comments only escalate a situation; please keep calm and remember that action can be taken against other parties if necessary. Attacking another user back can only satisfy trolls or anger contributors and leads to general bad feeling. Please try to remain civil with your comments. Thanks!   — Jeff G. As a courtesy to other editors, it is a Commons guideline to sign your posts on talk pages, user talk pages, and noticeboards. To do so, simply add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments. Your user name or IP address (if you are not logged in) and the date will be then be automatically added along with a timestamp when you save your comment. Signing your comments helps people to find out who said something and provides them with a link to your user/talk page (for further discussion). For further info, read Commons:Talk page guidelines. Thank you.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 00:18, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When editing a page on Commons there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field - please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you.   — Jeff G.
