Image categories[edit]
Hi, UnexpectedDinoLesson! First, I wanted to say that I appreciate all the recent dinosaur illustrations you have uploaded. I also wanted to point out the "proper"/preferred way to add categories to your images. For example, on File:Saurolophus UDL.png, you have "Saurolophus", "Hadrosauridae", "Dinosaur", "Dinosauria", "Cretaceous", and "Mesozoic" listed as categories. However, the "Saurolophus" category is already nested within the "Hadrosauridae" category, which is in turn nested in "Dinosauria". "Cretaceous" and "Mesozoic" should technically be categories for illustrations of those time periods/eras, but unfortunately are often not used as such. "Dinosaur" is just a redirect category, and thus should never be used. The preferable way to categorize images would be more along the lines of just "Saurolophus life restorations" (which is nested within "Saurolophus" and "Saurolophinae life restorations"). For genera/species without a "XXX life restorations" category, it can be added to the taxon's category and its parent's "XXX life restorations" category. For example, File:Lanzhousaurus.png could have the "Lanzhousaurus" and "Ankylopollexia life restorations" categories.
I hope this makes sense and is not too terribly confusing. Let me know if I can help in any way! -SlvrHwk (talk) 00:43, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
- I went through and updated all of the previous ones that had not been yet. Just something to keep in mind for future uploads. :) -SlvrHwk (talk) 01:35, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you so much! I'm still new and learning all this stuff. I'll try to do it correctly from now on.. I think I understand it! And thanks for going back and doing all the old ones. Let me know if there's anything else I should be doing differently. UnexpectedDinoLesson (talk) 17:25, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
