Deutsch: Der Zweite Weltkrieg war der größte und blutigste Konflikt in der Menschheitsgeschichte. Er begann in Europa am 1. September 1939 mit dem deutschen Überfall auf Polen und im Pazifik bzw. in Asien mit dem japanischen Angriff auf Pearl Harbor am 7. Dezember 1941, wobei man manchmal auch den Ausbruch des Zweiten Japanisch-Chinesischen Kriegs am 7. Juli 1937 als Beginn in Asien annimmt. Beendet wurde er in Europa am 8. Mai 1945 und in Asien mit der Unterzeichnung der Kapitulation Japan's am 2. September 1945.
English: World War II was the most extensive and costly armed conflict in the history of the world, involving the great majority of the world's nations, being fought simultaneously in several major theaters, and costing tens of millions of lives.
