  • "Alexander von Salzmann, a versatile artist, studied in Moscow and Munich where he forged close ties with Wassily Kandinsky. He excelled as a painter, set designer, and graphic artist, making his mark at Munich's Marionette Theatre and in the Jugend periodical. Most notably, he pioneered innovative lighting at Helleray Theatre. In Tbilisi he directed operas, designed for the drama theatre. Together with his wife, Jeanne Allemand, he founded a music and dance school and was involved with George Gurdijeff's Institute for the Harmonious Development of Man. He then relocated to Paris, where he contributed to the Champs-Elysées Theatre and pursued various creative roles until 1930."
