Made in 1818 for Princess Augusta of Hesse-Kassel, the new wife of Prince Adolphus, Duke of Cambridge. It was inherited by her daughter Augusta, Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Queen Mary commissioned a copy of the tiara in 1913, Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara, with which it is commonly confused.
