English: The Canary Restaurant operated in a heritage building on the Southeast corner of Cherry and Front Streets, from around 1960 to around 2008.
Around 2008 a large parcel of land east of Cherry was rezoned from light industry to residential. As a heritage building it was not demolished, but the redevelopment nevertheless drove the restaurant out of business, after the buildings where its customers worked were demolished.
Some years later the property developers decided to name the new neighbourhood after the restaurant.Subcategories
