English: According to the Asia Harvest estimation in 2020, of the entire population (4,057,601) in Mianyang (the second largest city of Sichuan), 5.43% (220,501) identified themselves as Christians; among whom 1.57% (63,896) are Catholics, and 3.86% (156,605) are Protestants, including underground church Catholics and house church Protestants.

Catholic Church: The Catholic Church in Mianyang is under the administration of the Diocese of Chengdu, its origin possibly dates back to 1777 during the time of Bishop Gabriel-Taurin Dufresse according to Annals of Religion in Mianyang, and is rooted in the evangelization carried out by the Paris Foreign Missions Society (
Missions étrangères de Paris
[MEP]). Bailin Catholic Church at Youxian District is perhaps the first congregation established in this region in the 1820s. The church was expanded in 1913 by Alexandre Perrodin, an MEP missionary. Our Lady of Lourdes Church is the only Catholic church in Fucheng District, it seems there is no information available on the internet concerning its history.

Protestant Churches: Protestantism was introduced into Mianyang in 1894 by Anglican missionaries of the Church of England Missionary Society (CMS), who subsequently made the city their mission headquarters. Or according to Annals of Religion in Mianyang, in 1885, a small mission church —Gospel Church, Mianyang— was already founded in this city by two CMS missionaries, Alfred Arthur Phillips and Gertrude Emma Wells. Gospel Church, Jiangyou is traditionally regarded as the first church building in the Mianyang region, or as a matter of fact, in the entire province, founded by the CMS. The District of Mianyang formerly belonged to the Diocese of West Szechwan. In addition to Anglicanism, Quakerism had a strong presence in Santai County, which was organized as the Santai Monthly Meeting.

Note: Annals of Religion in Mianyang contains some dubious information due to political propaganda and a lack of meticulous scholarship, therefore the use of "possibly" and "perhaps" when referring to this source.
