English: According to the Asia Harvest estimation in 2020, of the entire population (4,057,601) in Mianyang (the second largest city of Sichuan), 3.86% (156,605) identified themselves as Protestants, including house church Protestants (source: Christians in China stats — Sichuan.). Protestantism was introduced into Mianyang in 1894 by Anglican missionaries of the Church of England Missionary Society (CMS), who subsequently made the city their mission headquarters. Or according to Annals of Religion in Mianyang, in 1885, a small mission church was already founded in that city by two CMS missionaries, Alfred Arthur Phillips and Gertrude Emma Wells. The District of Mianyang formerly belonged to the Diocese of West Szechwan. In addition to Anglicanism, Quakerism had a strong presence in Santai County, which was organized as the Santai Monthly Meeting. Note: Annals of Religion in Mianyang contains some dubious information due to political propaganda and a lack of meticulous scholarship.
