Each print measures approximately 9 inches wide by 11 inches tall. Copper plate engravings by Gerrit Wartenaar Lambertz. Hand-coloring. Parallel text in Dutch and French.

Iconotypes

Most of the specimens used by Cramer and Stoll to describe over 1,650 new butterfly species are lost or destroyed so the illustations have a special scientific status as 'iconotypes'.
