Elmina is the administrative capital of the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem Municipal District of the Central Region of Ghana. The name "Elmina" is European origin, the native founding name is Edina or Odina and goes back to a Fetu King of the same name which has ruled this coastal area between 1355 and 1390.
