Peint à Madrid entre l'arrivée de Guillemardet à Madrid (juillet 1798)
Exposé à l'Academie royale de San Fernando, Madrid, juillet 1799;
rapporté à Paris par Ferdinand Guillemardet, 1800 ;
resté dans sa famille après son décès, 1809 ;
son fils, Louis Guillemardet (1790-1865), secrétaire général du ministère des Finances, Paris ;
prévu pour être légué au Louvre avec le M.I. 698 (voir infra);
le testament n'ayant pu être régularisé à temps, le tabeau fut remis, en même temps que le M.I. 698 au Louvre par Philibert Fouët de Conflans, neveu de Louis Guillemardet, 1865.
