Many types of Japanese porcelain were produced mainly for export, especially in the periods c. 1650 to the 1740s, and from the 1830s onwards. These include Arita ware, including Imari ware, Hirado ware, and Kakiemon wares. The degree of difference between wares made for the domestic market and for export varies, and this category is for pieces very clearly made for export, because of their shape, decoration or (lower) quality.
