Jwala means fire flame, and Jwala ji is an epithet of Shakti, symbolism for energy and power of the goddess in Hinduism. Jwala ji goddess temples are found in north India, particularly within the Himayalas where eternal flame from seeping natural gas has symbolized the power of nature goddess. It is also found elsewhere, among which is the notable UNESCO heritage site of Ateshgah–Baku, Azerbaijan. At Ateshgah, a 18th-century double inscription in Devanagari and Persian scripts mentions Jwala ji.
